Privacy Policy

Overview

PowderScout (“we,” “our,” or “us”) operates powderscout.com and the PowderScout iOS app. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices.

Information We Collect

• Account information: Email address and name when you create an account via Clerk (email/password or Google SSO).
• Home location: A location you enter (city, address, or coordinates) used as the starting point for trip planning. This is not collected from your device’s GPS — you type it in.
• Preferences and search history: Your saved ski pass, budget, travel settings, and past search runs, so you don’t have to re-enter them.
• Powder alerts: Resort preferences and thresholds you configure for notifications.
• Subscription information: Whether you have an active Pro subscription and your payment source (Apple IAP or Stripe). We do not store full payment card numbers.
• Usage data: Aggregate, anonymized page-view analytics via Vercel Analytics. This is not linked to your account.

How We Use Your Information

• To provide resort rankings tailored to your starting location, dates, and pass ownership.
• To send powder alert emails when conditions match your saved criteria.
• To manage your subscription and communicate about billing changes.
• To improve the product using anonymous, aggregate usage patterns.

Third-Party Services

• Clerk — handles authentication (sign-up, sign-in, session management).
• Stripe — processes web subscription payments. Subject to Stripe’s Privacy Policy.
• RevenueCat — manages in-app purchase subscriptions on iOS. Subject to RevenueCat’s Privacy Policy.
• Vercel Analytics — collects anonymous, aggregate usage data with no cross-site tracking.
• Open-Meteo — weather forecast provider. Resort coordinates are sent to this service to retrieve forecast data. No personal information is shared.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes. We share data only as described above (authentication, payment processing, forecasts) or as required by law.

Data Retention

We retain your account and preference data for as long as your account is active. You can permanently delete your account and associated data at any time from Settings → Account → Delete Account. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone: your account, preferences, powder alerts and custom passes are removed, and the personal details attached to any past searches — including the home location you entered — are erased.

Your Choices

• You can permanently delete your account and data at any time from Settings → Account → Delete Account. If your subscription is billed through Apple, deleting your account does not cancel it — cancel it separately in your Apple ID subscription settings.
• You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in Settings → Account, or via your Apple ID subscription settings for iOS purchases.
• You can stop powder alert emails by turning off or deleting your alerts in the Alerts tab, or via the “Manage your alerts” link in any alert email.

Children’s Privacy

PowderScout is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the new policy on this page with an updated date.
